Homework Assistance:
We help students with week-to-week completion of key homework assignments, by assisting them in their efforts to understand and master content, as well as better organize and plan their time. Most importantly, we provide motivational companioning along the way.
Test Preparation:
In contrast to traditional classroom approaches to test preparation, we provide individual assessments for each student, and specifically designed programs tailored to facilitate their unique learning needs. Through assessment, strategic teaching, encouragement, and motivation, we can help students in areas that need improvement and review, until they feel confident and ready to take their tests. We offer individualized preparation, both for routine tests during the school year, as well as for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and lower and upper level ISEE and SSAT.
College Application Assistance:
We offer assistance to students as they work on college applications. We guide them through the application process, giving feedback on essays, and offering further suggestions for improving their applications. This service is not limited to in-person meetings; it can be arranged and utilized via the internet.
Help navigating Planning Placement Team (PPTs),
Individualized Education Plan (IEPs), and 504 plans:
PPTs, IEPs, and 504 plans are mechanisms in the public school system to ensure that adequate services are provided to students with learning differences. The legal ins and outs, as well as each school's procedures for satisfying its legal requirements, can be confusing and frustrating. We provide services to help parents navigate the school and legal systems. Among other things, we can help explain to parents what they need to know and we can function as liaisons or facilitators between parents and their children's schools or teachers. The goal should always be to keep students and their learning needs as the focus. We believe in the importance of creating teams between parents, teachers, students, and any outside facilitators, in order to best help students with their unique set of learning challenges.
